Obituary of David Richard Nelson

David Richard Nelson September 7, 1944 – August 11, 2023 On Friday, August 11, 2023, David Richard Nelson, loving Uncle, Great Uncle and Brother passed away peacefully at the Red Deer hospital at the age of 78. David enlisted in the army after high school then worked at various jobs in BC and Alberta. He earned his psychology degree later in life and worked as an addiction’s counsellor. David loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching American football (San Francisco 49ers being his favorite team), curling, baseball (the Toronto Blue Jays especially) and spending his quiet time in the courtyard with the sun on his face surrounded by his flowers and nature. Uncle David you were the toughest, bravest man I have ever met. I will always admire the strength and courage you showed in meeting and fighting your many health challenges over the years. How I will miss your big smile, your quick wit, your sense of humor and your friendship. I will so miss our visits, lunch dates and our many laughs together. You will always be in my heart. David leaves behind his family, Shelley (Garry), Karen (Fred) and families, Vicki (Kevin), Kevin (Debbie) and families, many other nieces and nephews and his sister, Winnifred Kettleson (Truro, NS). David was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Annie Nelson, brothers Ray Nelson and Cliff Nelson, sister Doreen Thompson, his partner Carol and nephew Cecil Nelson. Thank you to the staff at the Red Deer Hospital (Unit 32) for your care, kindness and making David’s last few days as comfortable as possible. With a heart full of gratitude, a special thank you to everyone at the Centennial Center (Chinook House) for your exceptional care of Uncle David. Your understanding, kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. God bless you all for being the special people you are and doing what you do. A family service will be held at a later date.
