Melvin Lee Lauer June 12, 1963 – October 20, 2023 It is with great sadness that the Lauer family announce the passing of Melvin Lee Lauer, Friday, October 20, 2023. Melvin was born, June 12, 1963 and raised in Drayton Valley, the youngest son of Ed and Mary Lauer and a middle sibling to 7 brothers and sisters. As a young man, Melvin was a member of the local boxing club, as well as the gymkhana and Lighthorse 4H club. He was happiest when he was riding his horse and felt most comfortable wearing his cowboy hat. Melvin moved around a bit in his youth. He married Isobella Brzezinska, they later divorced, but not before they had 2 beautiful sons, Daniel and Michael. Although skilled in geriatric care, Melvin only worked in that area for a short time while living in BC. Eventually, Melvin would call Drayton Valley home again. Melvin was a storyteller, although some of his stories were more tall tales, he enjoyed socializing and spending time with friends. He enjoyed Karaoke and could often be found at a local watering hole crooning to a small crowd. Melvin was an artist and enjoyed sketching in his free time. As a free spirit, Melvin spent most of his life doing odd handyman jobs, that allowed him to pivot and change direction quickly. Melvin will be missed for his kindness and gentleness. He didn’t have much to give, but what he had - he was glad to share. Melvin will be fondly remembered by his sons, Daniel (Miranda) Lauer and Michael Lauer; daughter, Tabitha King; granddaughter, Emily; siblings, Eileen (Jim) Garmen, Lorraine (Darrel) Haggerty, Floyd (Vivian) Lauer, Ed (Diane) Lauer, Arlene (Curtis) Lauer-Krueger, and Brother-in-Law Ron Martens, plus numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Melvin was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Mary Lauer; brother Roy Schotts, and sister Edwina (Tyke). In keeping with Melvin’s empathetic nature, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of Dwayne Henley and Terri Shimenosky at: Affinity Funeral Service 5001 – 45 Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta T7A 1L1 780.542.3338
