Obituary of Joel Brian Gunderson

Joel Brian Gunderson September 27, 1969 – October 30, 2021 We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Joel Brian Gunderson on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the age of 52 years. Joel entered the world on September 27, 1969 and was born and raised in Whitecourt, Alberta. Joel had the biggest heart for his wife and two girls, they meant the world to him and would do anything for them. His greatest gift in life was his grandson, Harrison. The two of them were inseparable and spent as much time as possible together. Joel was an avid fan of the Edmonton Oilers. You would often see him strutting around in his orange Oilers shirt that many knew him by. During the Oilers off season, he couldn’t wait to spend his summers out on the golf course. He attended many tournaments, which led him meeting the love of his life, Leona. It was love at first sight. Joel was a very enthusiastic person when it came to his work life. He was an entrepreneur starting at the age of 21, starting his career at the local Fast Gas when he purchased company. Although Joel faced some hard times during his life, he came to a realization and turned his life around for himself and his family. He was so proud to be involved in Teen Challenge Alberta foundation where he helped many men that are overcoming the same challenges he went through. This was his passion project and led him to becoming a man of faith. Finding the comfort and strength in God, guided him along the right path. We know that he is at peace and has met the Lord. Proverbs 3:5,6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." To grieve, he leaves behind his Wife Leona Gunderson, daughters Kaleeah (Dylan Yuhar) Gunderson and Haley Gunderson, grandson Harrison Vincent, mother Beverly Gunderson, sister Shyvonne (Rolland) Gunderson, numerous brother and sister-in-law’s as well as many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, friends and his Teen Challenge Alberta Family. He is now rejoined with his father Brian Gunderson, uncle Dale Gunderson, parents-in-law Mike and Annie Kushnerek as well as paternal and maternal grandparents. No services will be held at this time. There will be a memorial service in the spring of 2022 that family and friends will be able to attend. Date is yet to be determined. The Gunderson family would like to express their deepest thank you to everyone for all of the love and support that has been provided to them during these difficult times. Each act of kindness that has been provided to the family has been noticed and they are forever grateful. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.affinityfuneralservice.ca.
